It’s strange the things that get me going. Besides coffee.
A lot of times in the evening I like to cut slices of cheese, usually Irish or Basque, and put them on crackers. But not just any cracker; I like Triscuits with a hint of salt, made by Nabisco, part of Kraft Foods and probably some place in Bain Capital’s food chain.
But anywhere from a third to a half of any box is useless for my purposes because the crackers are so broken up that they couldn't even hold the shavings of cheese, let alone a slice. Just look at the photo on the box versus the slivers on my plate.
I suppose I could spread something on the slivers, but the effort I’d exert versus the return would not be worth it.
I sent a complaint via the Internet. That was an experience. They wanted all kinds of information from the box, some of which I could not find. They even wanted to know what I paid for the box and how many boxes were affected.
This all points to refund, but I don’t want a refund. I want my boxes of Triscuits to come with the crackers intact. No more slivers. No more breakage.
I’ll add a postscript to this when I find out.

I am sorry
your Triscuits were broken. The product you purchased is certainly not up to
our high quality standards. The breakage you're describing may have been caused
by improper handling during processing, packaging, and/or distribution.
I will bring this to attention of our Quality Control and Production staff. I will be sending coupon reimbursement to you via first class mail which you should receive within 7 to 10 working days.

This reminds me of the time we were grocery shopping together and you picked out a bag of Snyders' Pretzel Pieces (the company's clever way of selling the busted pieces of pretzels). Not satisfied with the amount of broken pretzels in your bag, you threw the bag on the floor of the grocery store and said "Now THOSE are pretzel pieces!"
ReplyDeleteI think you're misremembering. I would never throw a bag of pretzels.
ReplyDeleteHaving spent 41 years in food quality assurance for a couple of large companies, I recognize the format of a boiler plate reply to a "complaint" or "consumer comment." They do, however, send your comments on up the chain for further review, and sometimes they record the incident categorically by product and type of incident.
ReplyDeleteI think you'd enjoy a new adventure of trying different types of melted cheese on the Triscuit crumbs.

Same thing happened my Triscuits that I just bought yesterday. All the crackers, well most of them, are broken up into little pieces. I'm not interested in a refund. I would just love to have a fresh box of intact Triscuits. I can mail you my box and my receipt if you need it for proof of purchase. If you want to help me with a coupon, write me at califcurt028@yahoo.com If not, you still have a pleasant day. Curt

ReplyDeleteI'm so gratified to see that I'm not alone! I love my daily snack of sharp cheddar cheese on Triscuits. I put the combination in the microwave until it just starts to melt. MMMmm! Just today I threw out my collection of Triscuits partial crackers derived from two family size boxes. If I had attempted to soften the cheese on these partial crackers, I'd have had a melted mess!
ReplyDeleteBy the way, I weighed the leftover broken cracker combination from the two family sized boxes, and the weight was just barely under that of an unopened Family-size bag...
Triscuits Company: You need to do better! Perhaps undertake another controlled study comparing the weight of the broken shards when the box leaves the factory to the amount of shards in a boxes from various grocery stores, so you could blame it on store shipping and handling? Or better yet, do a test to see if packing crackers into three vertical individually wrapped columns would result in less breakage? If that significantly reduced the breakage, I can guarantee you that users would be infinitely more pleased with your product! Even If you charge this a few pennies more per box, we would save in enjoyment of your product and you would gain much user satisfaction!
